5 things to know

Here’s your quick morning update on news in the sign industry:

1. The 19th annual Canada Pacific Railway (CP) Holiday Train program is wrapping up this weekend, featuring two 305-m (1,000-ft) long, 14-railcar trains decked out with colourful sign lettering and images illuminated by light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

2. More than 3,700 potential employees for the sign, graphics and visual communications industry walked through the doors of International Sign Association (ISA) member companies participating in this year’s Sign Manufacturing Day, marking significant growth for the event.

3. Cartonek, a division of the Aptas Group that produces packaging and graphic arts applications in Sainte-Marie, Que., has installed an Océ ProCut 1600-3XL digital finishing system from Canon Canada.

4. Ontario’s Peterborough County has extended public consultation on its new sign bylaw through to January 2018. The proposed legislation would ban commercial advertising along county roadsides.

5. The Federation of European Screen Printers Associations (FESPA) has issued a call for entries to print service providers (PSPs) and signmakers around the world for its 2018 awards program. The winners will be announced at its next global print expo.
