Though the Oilers lost the Stanley Cup to the Florida Panthers, a mural featuring prominent players hopes to function as ‘therapeutic art’ for any heartbroken Edmontonians.

The blue and orange mural, painted by artist Lalith Senanayake and his son Don in collaboration with local pub The Cabin Pub + Party, is in the heart of Edmonton near Jasper Avenue and 116 Street. It celebrated the Oilers’ playoff run to the Stanley Cup finals.

Senanayake, who moved to Edmonton two years ago, wanted to give back to the community and show support for the city’s beloved team. His son Don took time off from school to assist with the project. For two weeks, they worked between two and eight hours a day to get the job done.

“It feels amazing to have lots of appreciation from people who like these paintings. A lot of hard work and effort went into this,” Don told City News.
