Competition seeks to bench students’ street-furniture designs

IIDEX Canada, a national design and architecture exposition and conference, recently launched a ‘graffiti’ competition, inviting Canadian students in related programs to submit their design concepts for a street bench.
Students enrolled in accredited Canadian interior design, architecture, industrial design or graphic design programs were solicited for entries by June 12. The winning design, yet to be determined, will be manufactured as an actual bench and featured at IIDEX Canada in September at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto.
Specifically, the ‘graffiti’ art will be applied to a street bench model designed by Ivan Palmini for All+, which develops aluminum furniture for indoor and outdoor public areas in San Marino, manufactured by Stop Spot in Denver, Colo., and distributed to commercial clients in Canada by Bum Contract in Oakville, Ont.
