- Montreal-based Zoom Media has partnered with Golf Media, allowing it to install out-of-home (OOH) advertising boards at more than 30 golf courses across Quebec. Meanwhile, Montreal-based iGotchaMedia has formed an alliance with SynergyScreens to expand its own golf digital signage network to clubs in the Maritimes.
- With the support of Wingate Partners, Nekoosa Coated Products has acquired IGI, the corporate parent of RTape and CET Films.
- The International Sign Association (ISA) has approved 16 regional associations, including the Sign Association of Canada (SAC), as official affiliates. Under a new membership structure, sign companies who previously had to join ISA and regional groups separately can now join both through a single membership.
- Ink vendor Flint Group has become the newest silver patron of the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), which certifies sign shops for environmentally sustainable graphics processes.
- Toronto-based out-of-home (OOH) advertising firm Abcon Media has entered a partnership with The Media Merchants in Coquitlam, B.C., which specializes in non-traditional interactive OOH advertising. They will focus joint efforts on clients in Eastern Canada.
- McRae Imaging, which prints fabric graphics in Mississauga, Ont., for trade shows, exhibits and retailers, has acquired D4 Displays, which designs portable display systems, and renamed it McRae Displays.
- Under a new global software partnership agreement, digital signage appliance manufacturer Aopen will support a white-label in-store marketing software platform developed by Australia-based Blocks Global.
- Wasatch Computer Technology’s SoftRIP print management platform is being bundled with Epson’s new SureColor F-Series dye-sublimation printers in North America, South America, China, Taiwan and Singapore.
- Visix, which develops digital signage software, has formed a strategic partnership with content provider OrcaTV to design and manage digital signage on school campuses.
- Flatbed ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) printer vendor Polytype America has announced a service partnership with Integra Technologies International. Integra will help install and service Polytype’s printers in Canada and the U.S.
- Display manufacturer Samsung Electronics has entered a partnership with the FastSigns franchise network to make digital signage available to existing ‘static’ signage customers. Similarly, sign supply distributor N. Glantz & Son has become a Samsung distributor, marketing to signmakers as Glantz Digital Signage.
- Brand Management Group (BMG) has been named the exclusive licensing partner for HP-branded graphic films for use with durable aqueous ‘latex’ inks. In collaboration with HP, BMG will expand the portfolio with new polypropylene (PP) and coated-paper products. The agreement is intended to improve distribution coverage, product availability, customer service and support for latex printing. HP has also rebranded its Designjet and Scitex printers that use these types of inks as HP Latex models.
- Montreal-based X2O Media’s new digital signage platform is now compliant with Avaya’s call-management software, allowing real-time contact-centre information to be distributed across multiple devices, including digital signage displays.
- Sihl Digital Imaging, which distributes specialty films and substrates, has joined forces with Green Surface Technologies (GST) to develop new outdoor graphic films for rough, porous surfaces.
- In Barrie, Ont., Kempenfelt Group has expanded into wide-format printing and display manufacturing by acquiring a majority interest in JD Print and Display, which has more than 25 years’ experience in the large-format signage market.
- Christie Digital has selected Baanto International’s Shadowsense multitouch technology for its field-installable interactivity kits, which can be attached around the perimeter of a video wall to make it interactive.
- New Canadian members of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) include: Owllite Digital, which prints graphics and displays in Toronto; Auto Trim Design, which custom-designs vehicle graphics and decals in Concord, Ont.; Wrap Effect, a wrap specialty shop in Sturgeon County, Alta; and North Island College, which offers educational programs in a variety of trades in Courtenay, B.C. Also, Roger Levesque at Turbo Images in Sainte Georges, Que., has joined SGIA’s Professional Decal Application Alliance (PDAA).
- Super-wide-format printer manufacturer EFI has acquired PrintLeader, which develops management information system (MIS) software for the printing industry.
- Stampede Presentation Products has become a North American distributor of Philips’ entire commercial signage line of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The deal was handled through MMD, a subsidiary of TPV Technology and the exclusive licensee for Philips’ commercial displays and monitors.
- Signmaking franchise system Signs By Tomorrow has joined the International Sign & Printmakers Guild (ISPG), allowing its franchisees to participate in e-commerce efforts through a centralized website (www.sign.com).
