Canada’s largest outdoor photo exhibit hits Harbourfront

Riley_Wallace_2This summer, Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre installed a series of wide-format prints it says represents Canada’s largest outdoor photo exhibition to date. The year-long exhibition is the first part of a two-year project in partnership with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).

Dubbed Nine Rivers City: Toronto’s Extraordinary Waterways and sponsored by Menkes Developments, the series comprises 72 photos by six artists, who were invited to focus their lens on the visible and not-so-visible aspects of the city’s nine rivers, exploring their significance.

“While Toronto is often referred to as a city on a lake, it is really more of a river city,” says Patrick Macaulay, curator. “It’s impossible to think of any cultural or economic activity flourishing without a river at its beginning.”

“We’re excited this unique exhibit showcases the river systems that flow throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA),” says Carolyn Woodland, TRCA’s director of planning and development. “It can only help raise everyone’s appreciation and protection of our local natural resources.”
