UV-LED flatbed printer wins tech award

Roland DGA’s LEF-12 ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) light-emitting diode (LED) printer recently won a Science and Technology Advancement Award at the 21st annual Shanghai International Ad & Sign Technology & Equipment Exhibition.
The award was presented to parent company Roland DG, based in Hamamatsu, Japan, during the sign-industry trade show in Shanghai, China, which drew more than 100,000 visitors from around the world.
“Winning this award is a great honour and distinguishes the LEF-12 on the market,” says Rick Scrimger, president of Roland DGA.
Introduced in 2011, the LEF-12 flatbed inkjet printer (pictured) can print on a variety of solid materials up to 101 mm (4 in.) thick. It has been used to produce signs, awards, promotional items and personalized gifts, such as textured smart-phone cases.
