Here’s your quick morning update on news in the sign industry:
1. The Calgary Flames opened the 2015-2016 National Hockey League (NHL) season with a new centre-hung light-emitting diode (LED) scoreboard at the Scotiabank Saddledome, manufactured and installed by Daktronics.
2. Digital inkjet printer/cutter manufacturer Roland DG has crowned Terry Carpenter the world champion in its 2015 Global Service Engineer (SE) Awards program, which culminated in a two-day competition at the company’s headquarters (HQ) in Hamamatsu, Japan.
3. More than six years in the planning, the installation of new wayfinding signs in Toronto’s iconic Union Station—Canada’s busiest transportation hub, with an average of more than 250,000 people passing through every day—finally began this past summer.
4. Ask Guy (AG) Event Graphics & Signs in Point Edward, Ont.—which both produces wide-format graphics and manages special events—has purchased and installed a Jeti Titan flatbed printer manufactured by Agfa Graphics in Mississauga, Ont.
5. Cineplex Digital Networks (CDN) was named the exclusive supplier of digital menu boards for A&W Food Services of Canada’s 850-plus restaurants across the country. Installation has already begun in some locations. (link to Nov. 25 daily news item)
