Here’s your quick morning update on news in the sign industry:
1. The Digital Signage Federation’s (DSF’s) Toronto regional council will host its first annual ‘digital scavenger hunt’ as part of a meet-and-greet business networking event at Yorkdale Shopping Centre on September 15.
2. Worldwide shipments of large-format printers showed a slight decline in the first quarter (Q1) of 2015, according to International Data Corporation (IDC), but durable aqueous ‘latex’ and ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) printers continued to see growth.
3. Digital billboard manufacturer Daktronics has equipped Royal Caribbean International’s new Quantum-class cruise ships with poolside light-emitting diode (LED) displays and entertainment-room ‘RoboScreens.’
4. Mutoh America has temporarily donated a 1.6-m (64-in.) wide ValueJet 1624W dye sublimation printer to the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) for use in training workshops in Fairfax, Va., as well as for the testing of materials, inks and papers.
5. Out-of-home (OOH) firm Clear Channel Outdoor Canada will soon extend its transit ad network to Edmonton, with plans to open a local office this fall before its contract comes into effect on January 1, 2016.
