Video wall rolled out for CTV’s The Social
Advanced, an audiovisual (AV) and information technology (IT) integrator based in Mississauga, Ont., recently designed a unique mobile video wall for The Social, a new CTV talk show.

CTV representatives wanted the video wall to support direct interaction with viewers, but needed the entire set to be movable, as other shows are taped on and broadcast from the same Toronto soundstage throughout the day.
Within two weeks of the initial order, Advanced designed, built and installed the customized system, which can be rolled on and off the soundstage as needed. The high-definition (HD) array features nine NEC X463UN 1.2-m (46-in.) liquid crystal displays (LCDs), backlit by light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
“We had never built a mobile video wall before, so there was a lot of brainstorming at the beginning to determine the best way to mount and house the LCDs,” says Omar Prashad, general manager (GM) of systems integration for Advanced. “With custom welding, we designed a system that can be moved by a single person, even though it weighs nearly 363 kg (800 lb).”
The project was completed in time for The Social’s debut on September 2.
