Sign shop advertising takes wing

DCIM102GOPROStan Wall, owner of Stanco Signs in Niagara Falls, Ont., has taken to the skies to promote his business, flying a graphic-wrapped powered paraglider for both fun and business.

After graduating with a degree in graphic design, Wall worked in the sign industry for a few years before opening his own shop in 2003. The 232-m2 (2,500-sf) shop’s three employees handle sign design, manufacturing, installation and service, along with vehicle wrap jobs.

“I had always dreamed of flying planes, but when I discovered paragliding, it was the perfect scenario for me,” says Wall. “Kind of like a motorcycle compared to a car, it’s all about flying slow and low. When I purchased the paraglider in late 2012, I made sure to get the white-background wing to allow for advertising.”

Wall flies year-round as his work hours and the weather co-operate, usually twice a week. He added the company name to the wing earlier this year.

“It’s great exposure,” he says. “People take photos and share them on social networks. It especially creates buzz after I fly over the busy beaches of Lake Erie.”
