Racing into a new season
Richard Childress Racing (RCR) opened the 2012 National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) season with new graphics produced using inkjet technology from Roland DGA, which continues to support the team.
At RCR’s in-house graphics production studio, designers and installers worked to wrap an extensive lineup of vehicles.
“We basically take the off-season to give each vehicle a makeover, with new sponsors and updated branding for our returning sponsors,” says Nick Woodward, RCR’s graphics manager. “In preparation for this season, we wrapped 37 cars, trucks and trailers, some as long as 16 m (53 ft), using more than 753 m2 (8,100 sf) of printed vinyl each week.”
The graphics centre ran four eco-solvent wide-format printers 14 to 16 hours a day, seven days a week, to produce hundreds of graphics, including not only vehicle wraps, but also signage and event graphics for pit boxes and other areas around the tracks. RCR also recently acquired two ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) light-emitting capacitor (LEC) printers to handle boards, decals and labels.
