Monster screen joins Times Square

crop1Clear Channel Spectracolor has unveiled its latest digital billboard at Times Square in New York, N.Y., running along the façade of the Marriott Marquis Hotel. At more than 2,323 m2 (25,000 sf), it is eight storeys tall and the length of a football field.

Commissioned by Vornado Realty Trust for a redevelopment of the hotel’s façade and retail spaces and installed by North Shore Neon Sign, the billboard uses 245,760 of Mitsubishi Electric’s Diamond Vision light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to provide pixel density of 2,368 x 10,048. This is reportedly the highest resolution in the world for a display of its size, topping even ultra-high-definition (UHD) ‘4K’ density by 15 million pixels.

The billboard uses YCD Multimedia’s C-Nario media playback system and is monitored by Diversified Media Group (DMG) from a facility in New Jersey. Interactive, social media and live broadcast feed capabilities include connections with high-definition (HD) crowd cameras at Times Square.
