Lighting the Telus Spark

In 2008, John Thomasen saw an emerging opportunity in Alberta for servicing and maintaining signs and lighting. Not only did he feel the province’s market had remained fairly untouched so far, but he also sensed demand would never die out.

Inspired by the successful example of Chris’s Sign Service in Langley, B.C., which also combines indoor and outdoor sign manufacturing and lighting maintenance, Thomasen opened Westcan Sign & Lighting Service for business in 2009.

The following photos show how Westcan Sign & Lighting Service installed the new channel letters for Calgary’s new science centre.

Careful precision and timing were required as the crew members worked together to manoeuvre the letters into place and attach them.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sign panels were installed onto each letter.

The crew conducted a final check to ensure all of the letters were fully secured and operational.
