Over the holiday season, pharmaceuticals retailer Jean Coutu Group rolled out an ‘e-store’ window display at Longueuil-Université de Sherbrooke station in the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) network.

The window allowed transit commuters to make online holiday gift purchases on the spot—by using their smartphone to scan associated Quick Response (QR) codes—and have them delivered to a specified address by December 24. Showcased products included toys, candies, fragrances and consumer electronics.

“This initiative differentiates us from the online market but still makes holiday shopping easy and effective,” says Alain Lafortune, executive vice-president (EVP) of purchasing and marketing for Jean Coutu.

The e-store window was available until December 13 to ensure sufficient time for shipping gifts.
