Graphics students go Pro

Roland DGA has donated a SolJet Pro 4 XR-640 large-format colour printer/cutter to Ryerson University’s School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) in Toronto.
The XR-640 will allow Ryerson’s students to explore the production of signs, banners, photographic reproductions, trade show displays, point-of-purchase (POP) graphics, interior décor and wraps. Integrating printing and contour cutting, the 1.6-m (64-in.) wide machine features two in-line mirrored printheads and odour-free eco-solvent inks in nine colours, including white, metallic silver and light black.
“We are very pleased to be able to incorporate the XR-640 into our teaching curriculum,” says Abhay Sharma, associate professor of GCM. “We can teach our students graphics skills needed for the sign industry, exploring topics like ink consumption, tiling, printing with white and metallic inks and producing vehicle wraps. I’m really looking forward to seeing the results this semester.”
“Ryerson offers Canada’s leading educational program focused on graphic communications disciplines,” says Don Ross, Roland’s national director for Canada. “We appreciate the opportunity to place today’s large-format printing technology in the hands of tomorrow’s graphics professionals.”
