Advocate Printing & Publishing, headquartered in Pictou, N.S., has installed an Agfa Graphics Jeti 1224 high-definition colour (HDC) ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) flatbed printer with the optional roll-to-roll configuration, supplied by ND Graphics.

Founded in 1891, Advocate is reportedly the largest independent printer in Atlantic Canada, with branches in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, serving clients across Canada and along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard. The company produces eight newspapers, 22 magazines, flyers, commercial photography and creative design work.

While Advocate is primarily known for its small-format output, including brochures and business cards, it also produces large-format promotional signage, banners, trade show exhibits, window graphics, murals, backlit displays and floor graphics. In-house capabilities include direct-to-substrate UV-cured prints on rigid and flexible media, vinyl lettering, acrylic cutting and sign letter routing.

As an industrial-grade photorealistic display graphics printer with 20 piezoelectric printheads, the Jeti 1224 HDC can reportedly produce up to 23 m2 (248 sf) per hour in high-quality mode, 45 m2 (484 sf) per hour in production mode and 91 m2 (980 sf) per hour in express mode. It can handle media up to 2.4 x 1.2 m (8 x 4 ft) and up to 51 mm (2 in.) thick, including papers, reinforced vinyls, canvas, pressure-sensitive vinyls, fabrics, foamboards, lenticular sheets, corrugated boards, tiles, drywall, glass and sheet metal.

To further support its wide-format production department, Advocate has installed an Aristo TL48 flatbed cutter, also supplied by ND Graphics. The plotter comes with a mobile control pad and control-panel software.

The TL48 can cut and rout sheets of rigid and flexible materials. It is also equipped with a creasing tool to create folds in cardboard stock and a variety of prototyping materials.
