All their ‘dux in a row

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Reprodux has installed an Esko Kongsberg XN24 digital finishing table in its main production office in Toronto to expand its in-house substrate cutting capabilities.
Established in 1963, the reprographer has locations across Southern Ontario, offering printing, copying and document management for banners, business cards, building project plans and other applications. In February 2013, the company merged with Entire Imaging Solutions, which specializes in digital printing, scanning and archiving for architectural, engineering, manufacturing and construction firms.
Before installing the Kongsberg unit, Reprodux used a smaller finishing table, but it limited the wide-format print production department’s substrate options in terms of both size and type.
“We selected the XN24 to handle larger sheets of material and because its high-power, water-cooled milling tool can make larger, longer and deeper cuts,” says John Duke, who manages Reprodux’s main production office in Toronto. “We are now cutting signs, displays, vinyl applications and odd jobs that would be tough for a guillotine cutter.”
“The XN24 makes jobs we used to cut by hand faster and more accurate,” says John Gentle, manager of the wide-format print production department. “We used to cut 30 to 40 posters by hand in about two hours, for example, which now takes 30 minutes and there are no more miscuts.”
