Montreal-based Astral Out-of-Home has begun to deploy a new outdoor advertising sign format, the Signature Column, in downtown Toronto. The column design supports both ads and information for passersby.
The initial network of Signature Columns will consist of 120 raised structures, each with two advertising faces illuminated by light-emitting diodes (LEDs), for a total of 240. They are being installed throughout the city’s downtown core, with specific locations selected for their high capacity to reach both vehicular and pedestrian traffic with minimal site obstructions.
“The Signature Column represents a new opportunity to reach a targeted segment in highly desirable areas,” says Luc Sabbatini, president of Astral Out-of-Home. “The columns will be energy-efficient, highlight creative leadership and reinforce Toronto’s reputation as a city of style.”
Toronto-based Kramer Design Associates (KDA) designed the frameless, vertically oriented 1.8 x 1.2-m (6 x 4-ft) structures. In addition to the two ad faces, one edge of the pillar displays maps and lists of local sites of interest.
