Durst brings digital and flexo printing closer together

Durst Group is expanding its printing technology portfolio with the planned acquisition of MPS Printing B.V., a Netherlands-based manufacturer of flexographic printing systems for labels and flexible packaging.
The deal, announced September 15, is expected to close January 1, 2027, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals. MPS will operate as MPS–A Durst Group Company, while continuing to develop and manufacture its existing flexographic printing systems.
For the printing industry, the acquisition is significant because Durst, a leading manufacturer of digital printing and production tech, is looking to bring digital, flexographic, and hybrid production technologies closer together. Durst already has capabilities in digital printing, software, automation, and hybrid production through its partnership with OMET. MPS adds flexographic technology and engineering expertise to that mix.
“Label production is becoming increasingly connected, automated, and data-driven,” said Christoph Gamper, CEO and co-owner of Durst Group. He said the addition of MPS will give Durst “additional integration options” and allow it to pursue “complementary development paths in parallel.”
The companies say the expanded platform could support more connected workflows, faster development of new solutions, and greater flexibility for converters handling different applications and run lengths.
Durst’s existing partnership with OMET will continue independently of the MPS acquisition.
The deal is another sign of print’s growing convergence, as digital, flexographic, and hybrid technologies increasingly come together in connected production workflows.
