Digital graphics professionals gathered earlier this month in Fairfax, Va., for the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA’s) colour management ‘boot camp,’ where a panel of industry experts discussed standards and specifications for large-format inkjet printing.

The workshop was taught by Tony Quinn, print and workflow consultant with Nazdar Consulting Services; Jonathan Read, manager of North American sales for Ergosoft, a raster image processor (RIP) software developer; and Jeff Burton, digital print analyst for SGIA. The attendees represented both sign companies and their suppliers.

“I wanted to be able to learn about colour management at the level my customers are learning,” explains Kevin Currier, application solutions manager for wide-format printer manufacturer Durst, “and I was able to do that with this workshop.”

Featuring both lectures and hands-on instruction, the workshop covered colour theory and principles, the goals of colour management, profiling and methods for streamlining production processes.

SGIA’s next colour management boot camp is scheduled for September 24 to 26, 2013. For more information, visit www.sgia.org/training_and_education/workshops/color_mgmt.cfm.
