Graphics education gets a soft touch

The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) announced it will enhance the educational program this fall at its annual expo with the addition of a new, ‘sales-free’ digital textile printing zone.
Designed to help attendees from the sign and graphics industry explore new market opportunities, the interactive zone will offer a range of information about the digital printing of textiles, from design considerations, technical requirements and colour management tips to best practices for ink and fabric combinations, recommended workflows and finishing techniques.
SGIA is also introducing a ‘strategic sustainable solutions’ zone, focusing on environmentally friendlier business practices for sign and graphics shops. The two new educational areas will join those returning from previous years, including zones dedicated to digitally printed and screenprinted garment decoration, vinyl decal installation, digital signage and colour management.
The 2013 SGIA Expo will be held in Orlando, Fla., from October 23 to 25.
