The cutting edge

True Colours Graphic Reproduction in North Vancouver has installed a new Esko Kongsberg i-XN24 cutting table from Fujifilm Canada.
A family-run business established in 1991, True Colours recently moved into a new 483-m2 (5,200-sf) space, which has allowed president Carl May to custom-tailor a room specifically for the 1.5 x 3-m (5 x 10-ft) i-XN24 digital finishing system.
“It’s a powerful and versatile piece of machinery that will let us turn around work faster, more accurately and in greater volumes for our clients,” he says. “It saves us a tremendous amount of time in finishing and reduces our outsourcing of dimensional lettering, milling and cutting. It has also enabled us to diversify into short-run carton and prototype packaging.”
May’s daughter Lorna operates the cutting table.
“It cuts perfect shapes out of acrylic, closed-cell polyvinyl chloride (PVC) boards, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), plywood and aluminum composite panels, as well as flexible materials,” she says. “Material distortion due to lamination and mounting can be compensated for with its software and optical registration recognition. It would be very difficult to go back to manual finishing!”
