1. On Nov. 24, new amendments came into effect for signage regulations under Quebec’s Charter of the French Language, requiring businesses operating in the province to add French words to their non-French outdoor signs.

2. While the recent 2016 Visual Communications (Viscom) international trade fair drew fewer exhibitors and attendees than the previous edition, non-European visitors were disproportionately well-represented, suggesting the show is gaining visibility around the world.

3. Wide-format digital printer vendor Roland DGA has signed on as a promotional partner for Window Warriors, a new skill-based competition TV series that premiered on the Game Show Network (GSN) on Nov. 15.

4. Out-of-home (OOH) advertising firm Outfront Media Canada has been awarded a long-term contract with the city of Saint-Jérôme, Que., a northern suburb of Montreal, where it will place and operate both static and digital signage.

5. The sign industry faces a need to improve the reputation of LED-based EMCs by addressing issues raised in opposition, including brightness, hold times, transitions, display areas and safety concerns.
